Some of our favourite moments at Christmas are centred around the kitchen, a place where all those family moments, celebrations and festive rituals that we love come together.
In that spirit, this week Elizabeth has joined forces with Dee Omole, founder of Dee’s Basement to create something sweet. Dee’s creations are tiny, edible works of art: each one hand-painted with warmth and whimsy.
Inspired by our beloved Bow, Hearts, and Honey Bee designs, Dee has baked beautiful handmade madeleines painted in chocolate with gold details - each creation celebrates the joy of giving something personal, meant to be savoured and shared.
As a creative, you’re a natural joy-maker. What’s a small, thoughtful detail you add to festive gifting or preparations that sparks a little magic?
For me it’s the little extras - a handwritten note, a ribbon that feels nice to untie, and usually something homemade tucked in, even if it’s just one madeleine. I like gifts to feel warm and personal, without being over the top.
Your creations are like edible works of art - where do you find your ideas from?
Honestly, everywhere; music, films, colours in nature, the mood of a season, even emotions I’m sitting with. Food, for me, is a way of translating feelings and aesthetics. A song might turn into a flavour, or the tone of a film scene might inspire the glaze or the shape of a cake. Inspiration arrives in tiny moments, I try to stay open to catching them when they appear.
Which Elizabeth Scarlett design inspires you the most?
I’m really drawn to the Bow design. It feels playful and feminine without being fussy, and there’s something so charming about that little bow detail - it's simple, but joyful. It reminds me of the small touches in baking, the things you add not because you have to, but because they make it feel special.
What makes a truly heartfelt gift?
For me, the most meaningful gestures always come down to thoughtfulness. It doesn’t have to be huge - just something that shows someone really paid attention to who you are and what you love. I truly believe some of the best gifts aren’t things at all, they’re time, kindness, or a shared moment you remember.
